TAKIGAHARA STONE TOURISM

A tour where you can experience the charm of culture and craftsmanship in Takigahara, Komatsu City, Ishikawa Prefecture, will be held in early March. Through a variety of programs, including a local guide, workshops with artisans, and a stone oven dinner, participants will have the opportunity to immerse themselves in the traditions and creativity of Takigahara.

Village of Stone

The rich stone culture of Takigahara,
known as the Village of Stone.

The history of stone in Komatsu City dates back a long time, with the production of jasper believed to have begun as early as the Yayoi period, around 2,300 years ago. The green tuff known as "Takigahara Stone," quarried in Takigahara, is highly durable, resistant to water, and distinguished by its beautiful bluish-white hue. It has been widely used for building foundations and stone storehouses in the region and remains a valuable resource that continues to be an integral part of people's lives today.
